2025 Solemma Symposium Brings Together Over 40+ Firms

On Thursday, May 8th, the 2025 Solemma Symposium brought together over 70 sustainability enthusiasts representing 42 firms to discuss the use of environmental analysis tools in design practice, research, and architectural education. The full-day event took place at the KPF offices across from Bryant Park in New York City. A lovely reception was held after the event, where attendees and speakers networked while enjoying food and drink.

KPF’s Global Director of Sustainability Carlos Cerezo Davila, and Solemma CEO Christoph Reinhart, kicked off the event followed by five sessions of exciting presentations from speakers who described their simulation-informed design practices.

ClimateStudio Updates: CS Revit, Spectral Simulations, and HVAC Systems

Kicking off the event, Solemma developers unveiled a public demo of ClimateStudio Revit, demonstrating the LEED v4.1 Daylight Option 1 Credit simulation. The exciting new product is currently in beta testing and will become publicly available towards the end of summer 2025.

Spectral simulation workflows were also announced as a new feature in ClimateStudio. Previously only available as the ALFA (Adaptive Lighting for Alertness) plugin, ClimateStudio developed the new workflow in collaboration with Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The spectral simulation workflow lets architects, lighting designers, and health professionals predict and control the non-visual effects of light that regulate alertness, sleep, and circadian rhythms, in order to create environments that are safer, healthier, and more productive.

HVAC support, including VAV, VRF and FCU systems was also announced as a new feature in ClimateStudio. Thanks to the work of Ali Irani (MIT) and Timur Dogan (Solemma), Rhino and Grasshopper users can now simulate HVAC systems to be used in preliminary analysis and design optimization. Detailed input controls are available in the heating, cooling, humidity control, mechanical and natural ventilation sections.
